I've got a little gigabyte mini PC that I'm going to throw Linux on.

But it will be headless and won't have a GUI.

Normally I'd just pick Ubuntu because of my familiarity with Raspbian but should I consider anything else? Is there any point thinking about Lubuntu for a gui-less install?

Ta.

Thanks. Yeah, I did some reading this morning and came to the same conclusion about Lubuntu.

I think I’ll try Debian. I have Ubuntu LTS on another box so it can’t hurt to mix things up a bit.

I have a similar box and use debian, seems to work fine.

(Technically i have proxmox on it and the vms run debian but they are all solid enough)

You could try Rocky or Alma Linux. They are both free versions of Red Hat Enterprise Linux and there is a lot of documentation out there with setting everything up. I went with Rocky Linux myself.

I think I might need something else, Debian doesn't seem to like shutting down, the little unit doesn't power off.

If I try RHEL, will I have to learn a whole lot of new stuff?

I’m using Ubuntu Server and it works well. Lots of documentation or search results for common issues. Probably better distros out there for specific uses, but it’s a good choice I would say.
