Without having listened to both I couldnt really pick between them as they both do very similar.
The bottom one won an award for best headunit 2003 according to the blurb...
Also what colour is the dash its going in as they are very very different colours of the main plastic and one of them is going to stick out like a sore thumb I would think

CBS - your comments just seem to be trolling TBH.

i wouldnt pick either to be honest. i think you'll be better off with an Alpine 9855R, much nicer headunit that both of those IMHO. I never did like the look of the Pionner range

I need advice as to which is the better one as i have no idea.....
Im using the stock speakers and they are good enuff although that may change in a few months so may add a sub+amp etc....

Cheers

chosen yet?

i couldn't decide between that pioneer and the alpine 9855.

The 9855 was the other one that i saw after the post, the dash is dark so yeah it would stick out, I think I may go for the 9855 looks as though the Apline is the better of the 2

9855 is a fine choice. I have one myself and its without a double the best head unit I have ever owned for both sound quality and features.
Glidetouch takes a little getting used to but is a breeze after a bit of playing.
Very comprehensive features on this unit too.

The 9853 is near identical in features (they even use the same instruction booklet) bar a few cosmetic changes and the pre-out differences, but dont let that sway your choice too much as its only a matter of setting the gain control on your amp to compensate TBH.

i'm not even sure if i'll bother with an amp. I'm hoping it will be a temp setup till i can get the cash together for an Focus ST. May only have the current car for 4-5 months.

I was going to get the 9855 (maybe stick with the 9853) and run the stock speakers with a sub/amp kit.
