Hi guys,

So after finally realising my 3 x 3GB GTX 580's run too hot on air and i don't want to go with watercooling i decided to sell my cards.

I have sold them now and i am looking for some cards to replace them...

I game a lot and my resolution is 5760 x 1080. What cards could i get to replace them knowing i won't run into any heat issues?

I can run two 3GB GTX 580's on air fine and my temps dont go about 75c one Deus Ex:HR.

I am considering 2 x GTX 590's but i also want to know what ATI/AMD have to offer.

Thanks,

Shep.

Depends on your case cooling performance with regards to different cards - it will vary from one vendor to another, though you're probably right. You could just try two cards or one 6990, though that will work out more expensive than two 6950's - and there isn't much difference in performance as I expect you already know. Then again, I expect price isn't something that is top priority when you've just sold three 3gb 580's. :D

I suppose that two of your nVidia cards in SLI didn't perform well enough for such a high resolution, so therefore I assume you're still looking at three gpu's. Any option for such a high res will kick out a considerable amount of heat. Either invest in better than standard cooling on some 6950's (perhaps try two cards to start with); buy one 6990 and then perhaps add a 6950 further down the line; or simply invest in better case cooling - which is what I would have done right in the first place before selling the 580's to be truthful. :)

aren't 2x gtx580 3gb enough for your needs?

2x 590/6990 from what I've read should be less heat/noise issues but the 590s(1.5gb VRAM per gpu) may struggle at times due VRAM shortage where's the 6990(2gb vram per gpu).

3 x GTX580 3GB is already the top spec (unless your mobo can do 4-way SLI).

Just curiosity: which 3GB models did you have (that caused overheating issues)?

Edit: OK you are the one who complained about 580 TRI SLI overheating. I bet you have bought three cards with non-reference coolers, right?

I have bought 3x EVGA GTX580 3GB, with reference coolers of OTES design, and I don't have any overheating issues for sandwitch (back-to-back) SLI, not even in my mid-tower case with only a single 140mm low rpm fan as the intake!

For reference coolers, you don't really need those additional fans at all, unless you are overclocking the graphics cards by bumping the volts.

Point of View 3GB GeForce GTX 580 Ultra Charged NVIDIA Graphics Card & EVGA 3GB GeForce GTX 580 NVIDIA Graphics Card are both reference cards yep?
