Which high end power supply?

Seasonic/pc p&c/corsair/be quiet seems to be the standard recommendation, I'm unsure how enermax compares but reviews like them

Enermax was just as good as seasonic about 2years ago (last time I've used one in build ). I have no idea about their new stuff tho, they're probably still very good just as Tagan have been for years.

OK

IF you want a 850w go for the Corsair HX 850W or the Seasonic M12D 850W. (I favour the seasonic due to smaller size and lower noise level), but it costs more)

If you want more than 850w, get the Enermax Revolution 1050W or 1250W. As they are better than the Corsair HX 1000, which is an older design than the 850w version & not as good.

I'm still trying to figure what all the rave is about the Seasonic... I've read many reviews on them and theres really nothing special about them, they aren't as effecient as the Ernemax PSU's and they don't actually perform as well..

One thing I found is people commenting how the Seasonic is the quietest PSU there is... well not according to this...

Here is what you can tell from these graphs..

When both PSU's are drawing 500W, they both output 18db of noise.

When the PSU's draw 800W, the Seasonic outputs 28db, where as the Ernemax outputs only 23db of noise.

At Seasonic's max PSU rating it outputs a total of 31db, where as Ernemax's PSU, which outputs an extra 200Ws, it only outputs 28db..

Conclusion, Enermax is quieter by about 4db on average, and can reach 1050W at 28db where as Seasonic's PSU can only output 850W and thats at 31 db - Enermax is quiter whilst offering more power.

Efficency -

Seasonic:

'We measured up to 89% efficiency using 230VAC, which is near the top of our efficiency charts. A few power supplies have managed 90% efficiency, but as we mentioned elsewhere a difference of 1% isn't very significant. Looking at lower input voltages, efficiency is still good but the curves aren't quite as nice, with 120VAC reaching 88% efficiency, but only for a very small range of loading. After reaching the peak efficiency, the curve on 120VAC drops pretty quickly.'

Ernemax:

This efficiency graph surely does not need much explanation. The Enermax Revolution 85+ is the most efficient power supply we have tested to date. It reaches a little higher than 90% efficiency with 230VAC, but even with 120VAC it still manages to hit almost 89% efficiency. With 90VAC up to 86% efficiency is possible, which is simply amazing.

Conclusion, Ernemax is more efficent..

Even when comparing the quality of DC/AC these PSUs are pretty much identical, yet the Ernemax is quieter, more effecient, and offers more power?

So someone please explain to me why the Seasonics are better? lol Provide some real evidence too not just Seasonic fanboy stuff lol

Not to mention that Seasonic actually supply many other brands...

'Seasonic is a traditional OEM manufacturer, being the real manufacturer behind units from brands like Antec, Corsair and Arctic Cooling'

Mmm... my impression was that many of the Corsair HX series are Seasonic units with Corsair-specific improvements.

Channel Well make the Corsair HX series, nothing to do with Seasonic.

VortX, comparing a 850w PSU with a 1050w PSU was a pointless waste of time. Someone wanting a 850w won't need a 1050w psu and vice-versa.

I've certainly not said the Seasonic is the most efficient. But before the new Corsair HX appeared it was the most efficient OCUK sold.

All very good PSU, any one of them would be nice, but there are specific reasons to go for different ones.

The Seasonic is the smallest unit, so if size is an issue this is the best. (Also UK RMA)
The Corsair HX850 is the best value (Just) And 2nd most efficient.
The PC Power & Cooling Silencer 910W has the cleanest power. (But is the loudest)
Enermax Revolution 85+ 850W is the most efficient. (But not sold by OCUK) (Also the most expensive a tad overpriced, but not as bad as the bequiet range ;p )

Please also note OCUK don't sell the Enermax Revolution so we are not going to be recommend here much as it's not an independant forum.

Fair enough, however I can't see how its a waste of time when I clearly pointed out that even though the Ernemax draws an extra 200Ws it is STILL quieter and more efficient... If you were to compare it against the Ernmax 850W, or simply compare the 1050W drawing 850W vs. Seasonic 850W its clear that the Ernemax is a quieter PSU, just making a point it is deffinitely not a pointless comparison.
