Hi all,

Can any of you suggest me a board for a new i7 build, preferably decent overclocks etc? Whats the general opinion of the Gigabyte GA-EX58-UD5?

Many thanks

My current two choices from no knowledge whatsoever are

Gigabyte GA-EX58-UD5

OR

Asus P6TD Deluxe?

Thanks

my choices from using every x58 board available...

ud5 is the great allrounder

alternative is the p6t deluxe [any variant will do]

if you want great overclocks the RIIE is great as is the classified

you need to list exactly what you are looking for..

the ud5 ticks most peoples boxes

I want a good solid board, want to overclock and I don't think theres much else? whats the RIIE?

Oh and another question given I'm only really getting responses from one guy in my other thread. Is i7 really worth it over i5?

Thanks for the replies guys. Currently will be used for degree work (see how I put it first, because it's such high priority ;)), gaming most of the time and the occasional bit of encoding video possibly. I do want to overclock though, free speed is good :)

I think i'm going to go with the gigabyte, looks pretty fugly imo, but if its functional with all the goodies. I can't work out from reviews if the cheaper version is as good though!

The UD3?

Looks good value for the money tbh, i almost went with one myself but ended up picking a Bloodrage as i will probably put my i7 under water and need one of the top clocking boards. Don't think i'd pay another £70 for the UD5 over the UD3 though.

How comes you don't think the ud5 is worth the extra money?

"If your leaving at stock then the i5 will perform better."

How so ?

Hello Mr Ice Tea, long time no speak to :) Hope all is well, I think im gaming the i5 shows slight improvement vs i7, I went i5 in the end, should all arrive today :)

Will update this thread later if it all turns up with a few pics and what not, not a clue about i5 overclocking etc so I'm gonna do some guess work :) Hope you've been keeping well dude, and tbh if you weren't such a nice person to deal with back in the day I wouldn't remember you at all lol :p

Tight sod! I paid £280 for it back in March and it was £330 at most places. :D

Yes its very expensive but it is a brilliant motherboard. Extremely happy with mine. Just can't wait to get a 920 D0 in it now for some serious Overclocking.

RoEy

I drive a rover, the rainy day fund couldn't be completely drained incase the HG goes, and.... rains!

Now question guys, I really should start a new thread but do I raid the 2 500gb F3's that i have as a boot and games drive and keep the 1tb for storage or just not bother? :)

Nevermind all the excitement. The motherboard had a bent corner up at the top right (as in the pcb shows fibers) and the monitor rattles when you pick it up and buzzes when you turn it on. Really not happy :(

I've had no reply from overclockers yet, they sent me one yesterday about the motherboard, which I got after I went out feeling disheartened that I couldn't play with my new toys. Came home to try the monitor and it buzzes when you turn it on and has a bloody screw or something rolling around inside.

Now I have a feeling I'm gonna have to pay postage on these two things and with the monitor weighing in at something stupid I doubt I can afford it until I get paid again!

Still no reply. I'd ring them off the house phone but having just moved we don't have an active line yet (mobile broadband ***!) and my mobile would mean 35p a minute to sit and listen to music which quite frankly I cannot do. I just want it sorted to be honest. Tempted to wait out the 28 days so I can ring samsung and just get it replaced and just try the motherboard anyway.

The damage is basically at the top right screw hole, the crack goes right across the centre of the O shape for the motherboard screw to go through. Doesn't look like it touches any component lines on the board itself, but it makes me wonder why it looks like that. It certainly wasn't me that did it as I got as far as putting it on my removable tray before I noticed it.

Sorry to be spamming this thread guys, but I've just looked at the cpu as for some silly reason I was intrigued to see if it was the same as the core2 processors, and the top of its scratched in a tiny patch, whats that all about? Anyone elses arrive like that?

Update:

Rang ocuk from my uncles. He said try the board, its booted so i'm gonna stress it out some and see if it falls over at all. If not I'll just settle for a bent ear I guess, don't wanna be without the new board for days on end :)
