  • Which imac would you recommend
  • What is the difference between the two models
  • What is the highest resolution that they can run out at
  • Do they run the games at full screen eg world of warcraft
  • What like is software compatability on the mac compaired to windows
  • Looking to get a imac threw there educational store. eg mac 20inch £891 + shipping 24inch £1079 + shipping

If youre not bothered about screen size I'd go for the 20 inch and upgrade the RAM to 2GB (3rd party, not through the store). The card isnt great but you've got more chance of running games at native resolution on the smaller screen. As far as specs are concerned there no difference between the two machines.

films music gaming browsing internet

For that I'd go with the 24inch if you can stretch - bigger screen for better Film experience. I've seen one at the Apple store and OMG it's HUGE:eek:

Anyway, in terms of gaming, an iMac has never and will never be a good machine for latest gaming - Macs have never been from its history of specs (in terms of what the current gen can offer)

If gaming is secondary compared to films, music, browsing, then the 24inch is it.

Plus, it's got a better processor:)

Edit: and from the looks of your signature, you've got a very decent gaming rig, assuming you're keeping it as well?

i used to be stuck between the two... then after reading loads of bits and bobs and deciding to keep my pc for gaming, i decided to go for a macbook and plug into my 22" samsung and use an external keyboard/mouse :)

there is no way i would have originally considered this for performance reasons but the macbook is suspiciously close in performance (for non 3d stuff) to the imac ;)

Yep, if your into gaming, get a gaming PC.

Macs aren't really made for gaming, they more for the 'creative professionals' as Apple say.

You can run games through Windows via Bootcamp, parallels etc.. but you might be disappointed by the performance.

Whichever you choose, the gaming performance won't be especially great. You can always run the 24 inch at a lower resolution (say 1280x800) for playable gameplay. The 24 inch screen is a much higher quality than the 20 inch and if I were buying one I'd definitely go for the larger screen anyway.

If gaming is a very serious concern then you really shouldn't be thinking about getting an iMac.

there nothing between the two other than the size and price, if you have the room and money 24" i personally dont have the space or the need for a 24" so i got a 20" and its perfect, mainly used for general day to day things and photography work, only problem i have with it is the color settings the default iMac ones are very bright and when working on images i prefer to switch over to a sRGB or adobe RGB gamma
