which intake fans for a Phanteks case ?

I'm not familiar with the Pro, but would think that big hexagonal frame is to support the grill. It is not restrictive .. at least not compared to stock grill.

I think the stock grill is 2mm holes on 5mm spacing. What you ordered is 3mm holes on 5mm spacing. That's a 225% increase is opening area.

the hexagonal frame looks really ugly when the LED lights it up, it makes the roof look too busy, but it's part of the plastic roof injection moulding it's not an insert, so it will be quite hard to cut out

i dont think there's a problem with the roof grill, it's quite stiff, as long as you dont go crazy on it.

i'll let you know how stiff the new grill is, i should get it monday

Interesting that the Noctua NF-A14 and NF-A15 look and perform the same as Thermalright TY-140, TY-143 and TY-147 at same speeds .. but cost less .. sometimes much less. Reviews also show them at or near top.

I've always wondered why Thermalright never releases square mounted 140mm versions of the TY fans, as they'd probably be the best fans on the market for the money.

MalX,
I drew up the top with stock, the mesh you are getting and 6mm hex mesh.

MoodyB,
Thermalright makes fans for coolers. They are an old-school hard-core cooler company and make great products with no hype or crazy claims in advertising. They believe good products sell themselves .. which used to be true. Sadly now marketing is beating truth and honesty in the marketplace.

Yeah, I've been using their coolers for over a decade when possible.

I think they're missing a large market by not have a TY-14x fan with a square frame & 140mm mount holes.
My case would be full of them if they did.

Even a black & white / all black version of the TY-143 would be nice.

I know they do the 900rpm 140mm XSilent fan, but its good to have higher rpm's to use via voltage or pwm.

I agree. I use TY-143 on coolers and TY 140 / TY-147 for case fans with all controlled by CPU PWM signal in most builds. Often now some of the case fans are controlled by the graphics card PWM signal. Nice and quiet unless working system really hard. The TY-143s don't run above 1200rpm .. and at that speed the case fans are running 900rpm. They idle at about 750rpm and 675rpm respectively.

.

oh thanks m8 i never saw this sorry

i dont know if i ordered enough for the roof panel, but if so it'll be hard to fit with the plastic honeycomb in the way, because the roof mesh has bent over tags that slot through the honeycomb to fit, but modding the roof will deffo improve the ventilation

yes especially those yellow Venum Viper fans, they really are poor compared to the Phanteks fans

I think I've found a source of the 6mm hex on 7.5mm pitch in 1mm and 1.5mm 1 meter X 2 meter mild sheets. :D

I've replaced grills before by removing original, flattening it out to use as a pattern and cutting another to match. Then forming it to same shape as original was. Worked out just fine. This is what I'm hoping to do to my Primo.

the sheet arrived today, but it was warped in the post so i had to roller it flat with a milk bottle, i sprayed it with Etch primer and then in white, i've stuck it to the other side of the panel with bathroom sealent and it's drying right now, it looks quite good.

but you cant see through it that well unless i increase the white lighting inside, even so it still looks much better than perspex.

i'm after white lighting but too glary like those long LED strips, i might buy 4 individual bulbs, it needs to be more of a white glow rather than an Xmas tree

when i look at it right now i'm starting to get used to it, yes it looks great ! you can still see quite a lot inside.

mine is ALLY, mild steel will be better...stiffer

i've got another piece for the roof and this should be easier to fit because it's dead flat, but that honeycomb will need cutting off

Disaster

it didn't look good in white, the bright white paint distracts your eye from the view behind, it needs to be mid grey or black
