My 13 year old fridge freezer has died tonight (guessing the compressor has packed in as there was a loud buzzing noise earlier which has stopped now and the fridge/freezer is no longer cold) so wondering whether anyone had any recommendations on any particular model or brand. Budget of say £500, doesn't have to be fancy, just reliable really.

Had my Bosch fridge freezer 12 years or so, & it is still working perfectly.

Funny you mentioned Gorenje, as I was looking at this one because of the long standard warranty it comes with.

Nicely priced too, but had never heard of them before. Are they any good then? The other brands I have been looking at is Bosch and AEG.

It's a make I have never heard of, but reading about their history, & I quote the following from their site.

The only negative thing I've found is their combined fridge freezer only uses one compressor, whereas my Bosch fridge freezer has two compressors, giving it two separate cooling circuits which allow independent temperature control of fridge & freezer.
