Currently have an AMD athlon 6400+ 3.2GHZ Black edition.
but now i want to chenage to intel, what CPU is the same performance as the AMD athlon 6400+?

once i know which will give the best performance i can work out a budget then work on the pricee of the full system.

Just out of interest - why are you changing, especially if your not upgrading?

i am planning to upgrade, just wanted to know what the same was to work on the pricing, i'd heard intel were meant to be cheaper but they seem quite a bit more, although the overclock ability is better i've heard

Yeah I'd say the E6750 was about on par with the 6400+ (IIRC), which is a 2.66GHz Intel Core 2 part. Dunno what the 6400+ is supposed to be priced at as I can't seem to find any any more, but I'd say the E8500'd (3.16GHz Core 2) be a reasonable upgrade.

If you are looking for an upgrade don't buy the 65nm dual cores...buy the 45nm 8400 or E8500. They are MUCH, MUCH faster clock for clock compared to AMD chips and will easily do well past 4ghz`

The intels are quite a bit more pricey, but are the higher prices actually worth the cost?
also, what can the E6750 be overclocked to from the stock 2.66?

At launch for both them AMD/Intel CPU's you would have grabbed the 65nm Intel but do not buy one now.

Get a 45nm Dual Core like the 8400/8500/8600.

without overclocking the diff is minimal, with overclocking intel's jump ahead because they overclock very well

MUCH, MUCH faster?

as far as i can see the AMd 6400+ Vs the E8500 (both stock)... the 6400 beats it in nearly everything except games. at like 20-30% faster on average

Really? The E8500 takes less time to carry out the test in pretty much every non-game benchmark and the FPS scores in the games tested are as follows, the E8500 score is the first value:

Warhammer: 51.30 vs 35.10
Supreme Commander: 52.40 vs 42.93
Quake: 143 vs 109.90
Prey: 125.40 vs 112
UT2004: 104.20 vs 84.67
Serious Sam 2: 182.80 vs 152.10
