Hi, i have currently have a AMD 8350 and looking to upgrade to intel, but dont know much about them which socket is latest ? or best to have, and good motherboards to look at for

i currently have a MSI R290 Gaming graphics card i will be using, maybe crossfire in the future

i see this CPU seems popular Intel Core i7 4770K

any info will be great

Thanks

you want the latest z97 board and the 4970k cpu

thanks that clears up a lot, what ram speed os supported for intel as it says DDR3-1333/1600 and rest is overclocked, i have 1866mhz speed on the AMD,

sorry been while since i looked at intel been with AMD for good for years

Thanks

It's just "official ratings". Intel has the best IMC as far as I'm aware, so you don't need to worry about the RAM speed.

Though personally I'd jump on a 5820K set up if you can afford it, as the step up is costly, but it's far more future proof.

I'd argue in most cases the i5 46xxK are more appropriate. The increase in cost to the i7 4970K is usually not worth it.

If money is no object.

uscool - you're not going to get very good advice without stating a budget and the purpose of the machine.

the 5820K is Intel Socket 2011-V3 so thats where im stuck , is that newer,

the motherboard also cost more, so guess its newer socket

i only need 2 parts really CPU and Motherboard, rest i can use from AMD system

Thanks

I just suggested the 4790k as it comes clocked higher out of the box 4ghz and boosts to 4.4ghz

plus it has multithreading which will help a lot with xfire unlike the non multithreaded 4670k

the only problem going x99 for me is that the price of ddr4 wont help and you wont need that much horsepower tbh, unless you plan on using three gpu's

its upto you though

Hi, i would only need 2 parts cpu and motherboard

i have notcua cpu cooler, 128gb ssd drive and 2tb 7200rpm drive, 1866mhz 8gb ram , MSI R290 OC Gaming card, fractual case, 850w coolermaster silent pro psu

so i think i have some decent parts

i would like it for gaming as i see now the AMD 8350 struggle in call of duty advanced warfare, i use a 27 inch 1080p screen, most of the time its stuck on 60fps, but it can stutter on some parts

want a socket ideally that i could just upgrade cpu next time, unless they planning a new socket soon ?

budget £350 - £450 , maybe last a good for years, maybe gpu upgrade next thing , the 5820K i would need to buy ddr4 ram so out of budget there

Thanks

Z97's going to likely not have anything worth upgrading to CPU performance wise.
It'll get Broadwell, then they'll be a new socket for Skylake.

Socket 2011 on X99 is the only future proof option really.

Agreed, the initial outlay for X99 is steep, but like previous high end intels you do get a lot of longevity, (x58 being a good example). Skylake will indeed utilise a new socket, (1151) and i cant see broadwell being a signifigant improvement over current haswells.

Basically, if you go for Intels mainstream 1150, you're pretty much buying it for the now and when you upgrade it'll be CPU/Mobo.

But chances are when you upgrade you'll be needing DDR4 for the new platform anyway.

might aswell go x99

intel will think up something to make you change again, but yh x99 will last for longer

thanks guyz, right upto date with intel now, been with amd for past for years so totally was lost where intel was, as they seem to have quite a few different sockets compared to AMD,

i think a Gigabyte GA-Z97 Gaming and Intel Core i7 4790K which is around £350 and well within budget

Going to play devils advocate but why the upgrade from a good AMD system to Intel.

Unless you really pump a lot of money into it the change in your user experience will be minimal (Gaming and day to day tasks)

never had an issue with the AMD 8350 cpu for gaming before, other day to day tasks it fly's along

i just find Call of Duty Advanced Warfare , struggle abit, get some stutters depending on location or level in the game, for most part it runs at 60fps,

and by looking at the benchmarks seems like this game doesnt like AMD cpu at all , maybe driver or patch update will solve it, also wondering how GTA5 will cope ?

i know intel always been faster, but most times didnt matter, wasnt enough to see a difference, and also more depending on GPU

ddr4(lga 2011) still to expensive.
if u want to get the same performance but for less money, go with z97 + 4790k or 4690k.
