Firefox for a host of reasons. The most important, I think, to you are that it's
- Faster, especially in flashy "Web 2.0" sites like Gmail that rely heavily on Javascript
- More stable, crashes less often
- Ridiculously easy to add plugins that no other browsers have. Adblock Plus, Noscript, Tab Mix, Foxmarks, Firebug, and a host of others make Firefox the browser of choice for millions

I must point out that asking in the Linux forum which is better is like asking what company makes the best computers at a Mac convention. 
That said, I see little reason to use IE7 from day-to-day. 99+% of IE users I see are using it not because they decided it was better, but because it's what they always used and it seemed fine or they just didn't know any better.

On windows, my main browser is Firefox, the settings are much easier than IE, and there are more advanced features. I keep IE there for web interfaces on devices with different hostnames but which both have the same SSL certificate, damn annoying that firefox sometimes doesn't give me a "Go to the page anyway" button.
On Linux I use Iceweasel, because it's the Firefox that's in Debian's repo.

I just slapped Firefox 3 on Lenny. After the SSL fiasco, who would you rather have tinkering with the source? Mozilla's dedicated team or Debian Devs?
No politics for me.

I must admit, they're taking their time pushing iceweasel 3.0.5-1 out, I'm tempted to go the same way.

I tend to use Firefox as first choice although some sites don't work well with Firefox (work and a few personal interest pages) so I use IE instead. However, I've used Opera (about 2-3 years ago) and it was a nice browser to use, although I've not used the current versions.

Firefox , ( Not perfect by a long way, still find it a right memory hog.
The best of the bunch though )
Alternatives:
Midori ( fairly light , but still pretty unstable )
links with -g qualifier ( very geeky , no flash support but fast as hell )
Opera ( Sometimes find this faster than Firefox , but something jsut doesn't feel right. Possible because it tries to do too many think at once. )
