Which iOS for an iPhone 5?

I'm getting an iPhone 5 free gratis from a relative today to replace my ageing iPhone 4. I was wondering if anyone could recommend me an iOS version to use? Had a quick Google and opinion seems to be split on iOS 9.1 being OK to use?

The latest seems fine to me - I use a 5 as my work phone and keep it up to date. 9.1 reduced a lot of lag which 9 introduced IMO.

Thanks. Are you on 9.1 or the recently released 9.2?

Also, latest jailbreak available at the moment is for 9.0.1 via Pangu, yeah?

Don't mean to derail the thread, but as it's pertinent to the OPs question.
Did you encounter any battery issues or any other?
