which ipod + dock for hifi connection

looking to purchase both ipod + dock asap, I will mostly being using this as a source connect to my hifi amp. Not sure which ipod to get nano or classic! but leaning more towards the nano because its solid state drive. Are there any other major difference between to 2 ipods? and best dock for £40 please

Get a sony player and a 3.5mm line out cable. Personally i think the sound quality on a sony walkman (NWA-3000) is much better than an ipod. It may just be me though.
