Hi guys :)

Just a quickie... I've not used my 5.1 live sound card for a fair while (if I even have it somewhere). I didn't use it as I have only wanted to have Dolby Digital via the SPDIF on my NF2 board (A7N8X deluxe 'sound storm').

I'm just getting a Asrock 4CoreDual a a cheapy upgrade, and wondering will the performance (i.e. reduced frame rates) be better if I use the 5.1 live card instead of the asrock on-board sound?

With onboard sound, the CPU has to do the processing for the sound. Whereas a dedicated sound card takes this load off the CPU, allowing it to do more of the other tasks.

So to answer your question the sound card will improve performance

I wasn't aware the 5.1 live was an actual processor per se, so that's why I was asking. If my NF2 board didn't have the dd encoding, the card would be installed.
