I know this may be a bit bias posting in this forum not the pc one, but just spec'd a pc for £500.
But would it be better to get an xbox than a new pc? just it seams that you need to be upgrading pc's all the time.
the only thing thats swaying me in favor of the pc is that i play flight sim a lot.
Whats your oppinions on this?

Take a look at what type of games you play and which you want to. I was an all out pc gammer and and now happy playing on my 360 and ps3.

PC still king for flight sims, fps (tho this is geting close with some class fps showing on the 360) and RTS. Some say RPG but that depends on the type of RPG. Blue Dragon and Masseffect great rpgs only on 360 for now.

I would personally go with the Xbox360 as I play on mine almost every day and have done since December 2nd 2005.
My PC gets used, but it's only for 3D work or forum posting as the exclusive games offerings are pretty mundane and don't interest me.

Looking at games like PGR, Dead Rising, The Darkness and Mass Effect amongst others make it a no brainer for me as they are just so much better than any PC exclusives I can think of in the last 18 months.

Depends if you are willing to give up the flight sims, as really console's don't do that too well I don't think, if you can make do with your current PC for those games then yeah get a 360 as the gaming is brilliant. I only use my PC for racing sims now and got a 360 just for more general fun games which seems to work for me :)

Go with whichever platform has the games you want. If you play (serious) flight sims a lot then I'd stick with the PC.

Both are great, but if you are on a budget, a 360 is the best. It is just the price that makes it. The games do cost a bit more which is a downer.

yeah i think i would be content playing flightsim on my current pc. the thing that bothers me about the pc is theres always the issue of weather it will run the games where as with a console you know it will.

Though there are more and more deals around these days which are shocking. You could get Blue Dragon and Stranglehold for £40 (for both) a week after Stranglehold was released.
Call of Duty 4 is £25 this week.
WWE Smackdown vs Raw 2008 was £20 last week.
PES 2008 is £20.

Those are just off the top of my head without looking anywhere, so console games are certainly a lot cheaper than they used to be.
Remember, a lot of people who are pro PC games or state them as cheaper do actually download them illegally.

A good point, you get 3-5 years from every console. So it's not a bad deal.

ok sounding dumb here but whats the difference in an Xbox 360 Arcade system, an Xbox 360 Premium or the HDMI-enabled Xbox 360 Elite.

The main thing that brought me over to xbox from pc was the cost of upgrading the pc. I built a nice system about 2 years ago, was about £1800 and it was the muts nuts :D

Within a year it was unable to play my games on decent settings , i miss playing it, but i find the xbox a lot cheaper to run and a lot more simple.

I still do play games on the pc, but its only Driving sims like Rfactor and Flight sims.

:p

(But seriously OP: buy the 360 if u want less hassle and less long terms costs, unless Flight Sims to you are what Beat-em ups are to me.)

I've paid £20-£30 for COD4, Uncharted, Halo 3, PES2008 etc. on release. You just have to search around on the Internet before the game is out and you can get a good deal.

You really sound like you want a 360 as your just being negative about the PC, so I think your mind is already made up. Buy a Premium as their is lots of good deals on them at the minute, stay away from the Arcade model; no hard hard = fail.

It also comes down to what you prefer, shooters always feel better on PC than consoles so if that's your favorite type of genre then your better with a PC and Orange Box, UT3, COD4 etc. However I imagine by the way you have posted that it's not and you'd rather just buy a 360 :)

cheers. i know its old but saw my mate playing hitman2 on his xbox, and thats why i started to think about one. also liking assasins creed.
sorry to sound really dumb but will the elite version be overkill for me as we only really have a big widescreen normal telly?
Paranoid wheres doing good deals with or with out games (email my msn addy in trust) just i can use my mates for a while if there arnt any good ones about.

Type in hot deals in google, this shouldn't even be a competitor because it's just a deals site with a forum. Check out the popular online shopping sites.

You sound like you want console gaming but have you considered a PS3? There are some good deals for them as well plus it's starting to pick up pace. Uncharted is great and Ratchet seems to be worth it to (I haven't bought it though, too many games). I guess it depends what games your into though.

Elite isn't overkill but it's not worth it unless you want a bigger hard drive for the video on demand service. I don't use it as I don't want to wait for a download and I don't put points on my card anymore because of their DRM policy.
