Which is best?

My question is a simple one, which system will be best? For gaming, Editing etc... between the following:

1 - X79 Chipset and teh new i7 3960X CPU

2 - Ivy-Bridge with relevent hardware

As I'm going to upgrade but i want it to be as futureproof as possible.

So, Which should I go for?

Ivybridge.

The new LGA 2011's are way overpriced and offer very little improvement on the i7 2600k/2700k.

If you cannot wait until Ivybridge emerges get a decent Sandybridge build now and just get the new CPU when it comes out. I think i am right in saying it will run on the same chipsets.

1, is best, more cores, more threads and more cache, which will be beneficial for editing etc.

Plus there is a Ivybridge-E late next year or early 2013.

thats one apiece now, so both are drawing.

Is there a rough date for teh Ivybridge cpu's yet?

What would you go for Stulid? I have a budget of around £2500

If it was just gaming only, then i would get a 2500K, but as you said editing as well etc, then get the best

Do you do any 3d rendering?
