Benchmarking will make having the dual channel look quicker.
But some programs/games (BF2 and FEAR being prime examples) would really benefit from the extra ram although it isn't matched.
Thank you sir! I should probably suck it and see, as I have a couple of 256Mb sticks in my cupboard. I normally just play FPSs, so the extra mem might make a difference.
You can run four sticks of ram in dual channel (provided that each pair is identical. That is, that the 2x512MB sticks are the same and the 2x256MB sticks are the same)
All you'll have to do is to set the ram timing to 2T
Really? Well, I didn't know that - thx. I'm just in the middle of rebuilding my machine. I might very well try this. The difference between 1T and 2T is only a percent or two in most apps, iirc, but eh benefits from the extra memory might make it worth it.
