well there really isn't a great deal of difference apart from the stock speeds, a lot of people are saying that opteron's are cherry picked cpu's and that they are good clockers! from my experience especially as of late the non opteron chips are clocking just aswell!

You cannot go wrong with opty, even the bad steppings will do 2.6Ghz, while a good stepping will take you all the way to 3Ghz, just make sure that your mobo is capable of 300Mhz+ FSB.

4400+ is a better choise if you are not ocing, or if you have a poor mobo where you need higher multi to oc.

just as reference, most 4400's are doing 2.6ghz atm quite comfortably topping out around 2.8-2.9ghz
