I have the following options in my price range:

AMD2 3500+ is £65
AMD 939 4000+ is £65
Pentium 4 3.0GHz is £57
Pentium 4 820 is £70

No ideas on MB ( would like to stay around £100-110 for both)

Which of these give the best overclocks and value for money?

It`s not really possible to say which ives the best oc and value for money for this list, as there are far too many variables involved. some 939 4000+ clocked really well, some didn't and I'm sure the same is true for the other chips.

for the best value for money, I think you should probably look at technology that will alow a bit of an upgrade path, for me, from that list I think the AM2 is the one to go for. Though to be honest I would save a bit longer and get a C2D. For the cost a "big night out" you have a lot more scaleability.
