Which is better ??

I currently have 2 x 2Gb PC 6400 Ram on Vista 64, would it be better to ad another 2 x 2Gb giving 4 x 2Gb (8Gb PC 6400), or ditching the PC 6400 and going for PC 8500 (or higher) 2 x 2Gb.

I have a E6750 running at stock, on a Gigabyte GA-P35 DS3

Try OC'ing your 6400 see what speed you can get out of it, if you can up it a bit definately just stick with that and go for 8 gig

I would qo for quantity over speed... Especially with DDR2 prices as low as they are now.. U should get 900mhz out of most 6400 stuff..

If i get 8Gb then i will have four sticks of 2Gb and trying to overclock 4 sticks or ram is far to niggly to bother with. surely better to get faster ram to start with and push that, or is it not really noticeable in the real world, and pure qty is better ??

Depends on whether you're finding yourself using 100% of the 4GB you've got.

More RAM (i.e 8GB) will only show a performance increase when you run out of the 4GB you've got.

4GB of faster ram will show a performance increase immediately, but will slow right down if you ever ran out of that 4GB.
