My mate has more money then he thought, he has around £180. He is wondering which card is better?

ATI 4870 1Gb

or

GTX 260 '216' 65nm

LOLS, can a mod move this to Graphics Card section please!?!?!?!?!?!?

This is why me and him cannot decide, hes new to PC's, im not. I have a Palit GTX 260 '216' 65nm clocked quite high, and even higher when my TR HR-03 GTX arrives! Now i know that the ATI cards pump out a lot of heat, he has a Coolermaster Elite 335, so that MAY be a small problem, so that another issue and another factor.

+1

Not really a case question is it haha

But anyhow, Id Say 4870 out of those 2 :p

That Coolermaster case is suprisingly good for the money! OCUK use it as the base case for most of their systems so thats gotta be saying somthing :)

The ATI Radeon 4870 and the Nvidia GeForce 260 are both very similar in terms of performance. There isn't really much that separates them. Whichever one your friend gets, he will be pleased with it.

At stock flip a coin as they're both about the same, if overclocking then go with the GTX260 as they tend to have far more headroom.

GTX 260 if you overrclock your cards.

4870 1GB if you do not overclock.

Out of the box, a 4870 is a little faster in most games. However, the GTX260 overclocks much better than the 4870 (which ATI run very close to its GPU limit). When both cards are overclocked, the GTX is faster in most games and will generally out-perform a stock GTX280.
