hello,

Getting new PC for my birthday just wondering which component better:

one is graphics card,

1GB ATI® Radeon™ HD 5870 graphics card or Single 1GB Nvidia® GeForce® GTX 460

one is memory:

4GB (2x2GB) Dual Channel XMP High Performance Memory or 8192MB (4x2GB) 1333MHz DDR3 Dual Channel Memory.

if you could tell me which to go for then i can make my decision on the best.

Thxs,
Evilwood.

For the graphics card I would go for the 5870 - the price is simply amazing at the moment for a GPU that is a fair bit faster than the GTX 460.

As Jaysus mention, for the RAM you will want to tell us your existing specs. Also, if you can tell us what your current PSU is, so we can confirm that the 5870 will work with it.

does price not matter, because 8gb ram would cost twice as much as 4gb of ram, but generally 8 gb is better as long as you have a 64 bit operating system, so that all the ram can be used

Aye, whats your budget and existing spec's? From that it'll be easier to tell what is going to make the biggest difference to your system. And what will you be using it for mostly - gaming/video editing/just internet browsing?

the ram is 20 more pounds as it is 1666mhz instead of 1333mhz i am getting the spec but it is suppose to be the top of range ram and new technology. hmm dont really have that much of budget i would say about 1500 with no monitor as i have 24" dell one. I am gamer so mostly gaming.

well i am shoping around as i have only look at dell, alienware and mesh if you know of any other good places to look with out building your pc yourself that would be cool.

In that case I would give this a hard look, generally these are MUCH better than the ones you mentioned.

Alternatively, you could build it yourself - it's really not too tough.

Also, please bear in mind that next generation Intel "Sandy Bridge" CPUs and motherboards will be coming out on January 9th, so depending on when your birthday is you could go for that or ask for vouchers to bridge the gap.
