Which is faster 2 x 512mb or 4 x 256mb?

Hi,
should be a simple question i guess, all the memory is DDR, the same speed, matched pairs, on the same motherboard (dual channel capable), which would be faster, 2 x 512mb sticks or 4 x 256 sticks? oh, and its a 32bit p4 processor
