I've not keep up to date with CPU technology for the past few years so I'm not sure what are the best CPU's, how they rank amongst each other, etc.

I currently have a home built "server" which is powered by an AMD Athlon 64 X2 3800+ (2.01GHz)

I was considering swapping this for an HP ProLiant N40L MircoServer. This has an AMD Turion II Neo N40L / 1.5GHz CPU has it's processor. Will this perform better than what I already have?

Depending on the type of 3800+ you have the Neo came out 3 or 4 years after and has either double the cache or the same cache, it is of course 500mhz slower per core however you would think being 3 or 4 years younger the improved architecture would make up for it, it also has much lower energy consumption/heat.

No real reason other than boredom, something to do and to spend money :) I'm guessing any money savings would be minimal? And it would be smaller and quieter than what I currently have.
