which is faster?

Have to say it, search & you'll find you answer (in plenty).

Quick summary: ATI's offering is faster (in most cases) than the NV 88/9800 GTX. See here.

If i was buying now i would get the 4850. I was looking to replace my 8800gt with one but after reading a few reviews/benchmarks I think i will wait for now. Its a faster card but i don't think the upgrade would be worth it. See what the 4870 brings ......

Then they'll release the 55nm 9800 GT+ with a 650MHz clock speed! ... Probably.

I forget whether or not the 9800 GT is supposed to be 55nm or what.

4850

it's been mentioned thousands of times though? why not just read a couple of reviews and maybe see for yourself, even? i'd understand i it was something more neck and neck like 9800GTX+ vs 4850, but this is a pretty clear answer.

I don't think they were, but it would be a smart decision for Nvidia, moving all the mid-end cards to 55nm should give them some really good pricing positioning. The 9800GT @ 55nm could probably end up at 90-95£ inc VAT, where it starts being a candidate for cheap desktop gaming computers, cause right now it's still a bit too expensive.
