Which is it....i686 or i586?

I would guess neither as they are intel style processor designs.

However, i think original Pentiums were 586 and Pentium Pro / P2 and above all 686 at least upto P3 anyway, I'm not sure if intel ever called anything a 786? So i presure the athlon 1ghz would be equiv to a 686?

K7?

I'd say it is more i686 than i586, but most likely neither.

P2 is classified i686 aren't they? K7 is designed to compete against the P3, and even coped with P4s. Are those still classified i686?

Anyway, those terms are, IMO, obsolete ;)

(Edit: I've not really heard of any chip refered to as i786 really.. Maybe the Itanium? Anyway, this kinda re-inforce my opinion that the term is obsolete)
