My two 7800gtx cards in SLI gave better FPS then my x1900xt-x...

Well tbh a single 7800GTX would be at worst equal to an X1950 Pro.

The 512MB model would be, the 7800GTX 256MB is actually quite a bit slower than its big brother.

That said, 7800GTX SLI is definitely the way to go here.

Would be best to know what games the OP plays first...As SLI is more then useless in some games...

X3 was one game i myself would get even slower FPS with SLI 7800gtx then i did with a single 7800gtx...Where a game like FEAR would give me almost double the FPS with SLI

Aye but even in worst-case scenario with SLI he's going to be running about as fast as an X1950Pro anyway.
