looking in to having an anti virus program for a sales website.
i found nod 32 looks the best any one got anyother opinions?
what anti virus (if any) are you useing on your server?

Id advise that Nod 32 is probably THE best anti virus out there for any corporate or domestic network/pc/server etc.
Im an authorised ESET re seller in the southwest, and i personally use Smart security 4 with firewall and anti virus on my system.. in general their products are so completely un intrusive and very very effective. The heuristic scan that Nod 32 runs is superb.
My old work used to use ESET on a network of around 50-100+ pcs and 2 servers and had no problems at all.
Probably the best anti virus solution out there tbh.

We run Sophos Antivirus accross out network.
It's central management tools, integration into AD, relatively low foot-print and lack of "packages" makes it an excellent tool.

We looked at NOD32 (as suggested) and found the management tools nowhere near as good as Sophos.
Also the need to use "packages" where as with Sophos you simply make a change in the management interface and it replicates out to all nodes.

We did use Symantec EndPoint - that has excellent management tools, but again a requirement for packages.

Highly recommend Sophos.

NOD32 is similar, create a new task to update all clients, modify config and away you go, no need for packages.

yeah in all fairness the management of the software could be a bit more in depth with ESET although it is incredibly user friendly. Ive never heard of Sophos tbh.
I just would'nt go near any symantec product for a corporate or home network tbh. I don't feel their software provides a decent enough level of protection and ive found it far too intrusive in the past.
Imo its either ESET or zone alarm for me personally. Zone alarm has some good management options but does get in the way sometimes if you know what i mean. Very good firewall and anti virus though.

We use Sophos Endpoint Control on all our managed machines, mainly because Sophos were dishing out ridiculous deals in 2009 it didn't make sense to use anything else.

Sophos' management console is probably it's strength, being able to manage so many computers with one console is a boon.

On the downside it's malware detection is weak.

Thats a major problem then really

None of them are perfect, even the best only have a ~70% hit rate.
The best ones take much longer in scanning as they use two or three engines for detecting.

McAfee and Sophos both have strong management consoles, which is more than half the battle with implementing and constantly updating AV software.

ESET's management tools in comparison were extremely weak, and I've never seen ZA used in a commercial environment.

The ESET Administration console is the biggest pile of turd to ever make it out of a software developer's doors.

Their AV products are fantastic - all our clients use NOD32 and our company is an ESET partner like yourself. However, the management tools are crap. Utterly, utterly crap. It feels like a 6th former designed the interface and went out of their way to make everything overly complicated.

Luckily NOD32 is very good at looking after itself, so I don't have cause to suffer the management console very often.

So this is AV running on a server thats serving IIS/Apache etc etc etc based pages?

Your aware of how to configure AV on a webserver? Bit different to fire and forget environments...

Personally I try and steer clear of AV running on webservers and reply on inteligent firewalls, locked down OS, remotely scannning the server and reimaging of the machine on a nightly basis or at least once a week.

If you have to have AV on the server it will hammer performace of the pages if its scanning all the time, should be on demand scans with plenty of exceptions for certain files and folders.

Anyone have any experience with FSecure? Am currently using Sophos, but am finding its quite heavy on our older desktops... have been impressed with FSecure so far.
Fsecure's AV is so much better than Sophos'. Very good piece of software but most of our small businesses like to have spam filter too, which Sophos throw in (Pure Message).

I would definitely recommend Fsecure for pure AV.

Edit: Fsecure do have a spam filter product but it's not as good as Pure Message.

This is a great point. There are lots of resources on the web that describe which folders you should exclude from resident AV.

LOL yeeeeeeeees. The management system could be improved but like you've said its effective software that manages itself. Nice to meet someone else on the channel partnership scheme. How long have you been working with ESET?

It is my company that is a partner. I think for several years now. I have only worked here for about 18 months. I got sent on an ESET one day training day type jobby a few weeks after I started. Was mostly marketing stuff but we got free biscuits! \o/

We don't use Smart Security. Just the NOD32 software. I am kinda glad of that too since I think Windows Firewall is more than capable. We just want the AV.

How can you say NOD32 is the best product and i'm guessing you advise your customers of that to, when you've never heard of one of the most widely used Antivirus products in the corporate world?

Sophos is by far the best all rounder when it comes to business class AV.
