So guys,

Still looking at upgrading, and I'm told there is some price reductions coming soon on the C2D's so: -

In your opinion / experience which is best Core 2 Due to get?

What over clock have you got from your Conroe?

The price reductions kicked in a couple of weeks ago.

Personally I'd recommend the e6600. I feel it's worth the extra few quid over the e6420. I got 3.6ghz from my old e6600, and most people seem to be getting atleast 3.4ghz with decent cooling.

very vague....

when you say "best"... this is the best

Intel Core 2 Quad Extreme Edition QX6800 "LGA775 Kentsfield" 2.93GHz (1066FSB) - OEM

but its nearly £ 800

But that's a Core 2 Quad Kentsfield, not a Core 2 Duo Conroe ;)

my bad..

well there is an Intel Core 2 DUO Extreme Edition X6800 "LGA775 Conroe" 2.93GHz (1066FSB) - Retail

just over £ 600........

though i gather op didnt mean the best, he meant , "the best value vs price"

Depends on your budget and what you are going to be using the pc for, will you be doing any overclocking, do you need a screen with that? :D

i can get 3.4Ghz + out of my E6400, no reason why the 6420s cant do the same.

Currently prime stable @3.6 with my 6420 (1.5v set in bios) with plenty more left in it ;)

the highest ive pushed my 6400 is 3.5Ghz on 1.437V (BIOS), 10hr stable.

I'd push up a screenie, but my mobo is busted pending RMA (wont boot  ).

When the new one comes back, ill do a better lap job on the HSF & Core and push for 3.6/3.7+ shame ambient temps have jumped so much though, i was getting quite nice temps back in feb/march. Even better was undervolting @ stock speeds.... 10hrs stable, 0.975V, ambient idle, sub 30C load.

I got my 6300 @ 3.01ghz.. hour and a half stable (cant be bothered testing overnight...)

This is with aftermarket cooling of course.
