Hi, can someone recommend a decent netbook, im studying in the library most days at present I am using a Macbook air but I want to replace this with a Netbook.

I dont need an optical drive.
good battery life
not fussed about cost
as quick as possible
good quality screen with the highest res possible.
something a little more robust then the Air as it gets thrown around in my school bag.

Heaps of 11" netbooks on the horizon from samsung, acer, dell etc all will have 1366x768 res, so I would wait.

Also, if your not fussed with cost I think that's another reason to hold out a few more weeks, loads CULV (some with ION too) based netbooks coming, will be more expensive but at least will have reasonable performance.

Samsung NC20 (12.1" 1280x800)

I bought one of these this week, and i must say its immense.

Runs football manager 09 with ease and handles Photoshop CS2 fine aswell, you get about 5/6 hours battery life out of it if your browsing/msn or doing work on (word)

And the build quality is the same as the NC10, its very sturdy.

Meh, there will always be new stuff coming out.

I recommend the NC10, as it's what I have. Had it since dec '08 and can't fault it. Still using daily :)

There may be a newer model you can get though. I define 10" as the maximum screen size for a 'netbook'. Everything else is essentially a laptop IMO.

Edit: If you like Apple, you could sell the Air and buy a 13.3" Macbook. Bit more expensive however.

Agreed! I lol'd when someone was saying to wait for a 12 inch netbook, as if they don't sell laptops bigger than that or something. Hey if you wait, they may have a 17inch netbook available soon! lol.

Anyway, the whole point in my eyes was to keep this thing as small as or smaller than my textbooks. I already have a laptop. It's big and bulky and battery life is terrible. 10inches is the largest I want.

AND @Bigsy: what do you consider to be reasonable performance? Obviously it sounds like you are wanting a netbook to be able to replace a laptop which, they were just not meant to do. Also does better performance come at a cost as far as battery usage goes? You can get a dual core laptop to do about everything a desktop can do, for about 2 hours until it needs charged again.

I hope manufacturers remember who the netbook market is... We want small lightweight portable INTERNET MACHINES with LONG BATTERY LIFE and some word processing and office capabilities. I think they could easily try to cram too much into these things pricing them out of the market, and completely forgetting need for just simple internet and word processing for long hours on a battery only.

How well does it run FM2009? been looking at getting a netbook.

I have an Acer Aspire One (A150: 8.9", WinXP, 1 GiB, 120 GB), and I love it. The keyboard is a bit small for continuous typing, but it's fast and portable -- perfect for travelling, which is when I mainly use it. :)

Cheers mate thats very interesting as my desktop PC struggles to run around 6 leagues with a medium database, perhaps a larger screen netbook I should be after rather than a laptop.
