Hi guys,

I am about to order a Q6600 and the Abit IP35pro and 2gigs of ram...

I will be overclocking and hoping to hit at least 3.3ghz on air. A bit confused about which cooler i should be using, atm i am torn between these 2:

Tuniq Tower 120-LFB CPU Cooler (Socket 478/754/939/940/AM2/LGA775)

or

Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro CPU Cooler (Socket LGA775)

Which one is better.

thanks, looks like the bundle is a good choice then,

thats what i have got so far for the upgrade, but do my current rig has about 4 harddrives in it. i have an ocz 520watt powersupply. u think i need to go bigger with the graphics card and the harddrives and the fact that i wish to overclock?

Depends what you want to do really. If you're gaming and you want the absolute latest and greatest to run the highest FPS then you could probably go for an Nvidia 8800GT for not a lot more than the 3870.

ah not really interested in gaming, more interested in encoding movies and photoshopping.

gaming isnt really a priority but neither did i want to skimp and get a super budget graphics card.

well you could think more about the graphics card, that card is good enough for highest level gaming at 1680x1050 in most games currently, its no where near budget. but it depends what you mean by not interested in gaming. You could probably get something way cheaper if you'll only play a little CS:S now and then, if you want to play a new game now and then at reasonable detail then the card might be worth it. relatively cheap for not far off top performance.

As for the rest, a £70 J&W p35 board, £155 Q6600 and a pack of £30 2x1gb mem will basically overclock exactly the same as that "overclocked" bundle except a lot cheaper. You can even get 4x1gb or 2x2gb decent clocking pc6400 mem for another £30-40 and still save money which is really want you want to do.

If mostly photoshopping and encoding you'll want the 4gigs of mem. PC8000 or pc8500 is almost completely worthless, you're talking about a 1-2% performance boost over vastly cheaper memory that in most cases is the same chips and will overclock to same speeds anyway. In no way will PC6400 limit your CPU overclock which will account for your speed with encoding. Mostly the bundle is massively overpriced as you're forced to pay through the teeth for PC8500 memory which isn't worth it. But the motherboard from J&W is supposed to be very very good also for a great price, errm, its listed as OCUK branded i think.

drunken, can u recommend a specific setup as i a noob when it comes to memory. as for the gaming, i will be fixing my xbox 360 so on 2nd thoughts gaming is not really a priority. however i do watch a lot of hidef movie rips and dvds on the pc.
