WHich is the better old spec?

My parents currently have the following:

Phenom II x2 which I've overclocked to 3.7GHz but it won't unlock into a x3 or x4
4GB DDR3 1333Mhz
128GB SSD

I could give them the following:

Q8400 not sure whether it would overclock yet
4GB DDR2 800MHz
128GB SSD

Which would be better for general internet browsing and word processing in Windows 7?

The Intel, should oc too depending on the motherboard.

Since it's not your own pc, I'd not bother clocking it. They wouldn't notice the difference anyway.

the phenom should still be good, only ever had a x3 and x4, but from what i used those for at the time, the e8400 i also had didnt seem a whole lot of difference plus your parents pc has ddr3 memory with it, so no point going older.

A clean operating system with minimum services running is king.

If the end user is going to install a load of crap on it then the question becomes completely irrelevant.

For word processing and internet surely what they have now is fine?

Maybe just do a fresh Win 10 install on the SSD?

The intel should be better but I don't think they will really notice the difference
