Hi All...Here is another fibre thread lol I want to know what is in your views the easiest and quickest instulation of fibre broadband ,if you have a BT line usng the phone ? either ..BT Infinity , Sky Fibre ( when available ) or Virgin Media ?

Virgin is there own thing, unless you got virgin duct and cable then you wont get it or have it!
BT wholsales there FTTX out, O2 are next, plusnet, talktalk etc. Sky is the one thats testing it and pushing it.
99% of all homes have a BT line, so it's a case of a BT man turns up, changes the box on the wall, takes 2 wall sockets up to power the kit and job done.
Virgin will drill through walls and lay a W100F white, brown, black coax (you get option) to where ever ya want it.

ok i,m sorting it out ha! i follow you and thanks my exchange is enabled for Virgin Media ,but i have no cable or duct connected as i,m a BT Phone user also Sky LLU is enabled and BT Infinity fibre is due on 31st March .The reason i asked was the tech chat on Virgin Media website told me they would need to dig up my garden to lay the cable from the box in the street to my house and got me thinking about instulasion in general
If what you are saying is true in that you don't get Virgin Media via there cabled service you are only ever going to get there LLU service which is something TOTALLY different.
The Virgin cable uses fibre to the distribution cabs on the street then this is fed into coaxial cable to be run in to the home.
yes thats true ..but the virgin broadband checker says i can get there service and my exchange also says that Virgin Media is enabled at my exchange , i thought all VM broadband was fibre based or am i missing something ?

Virgin might well be where you are and in your street but unless it's been built like the last year it wont have a coax feed to the house already that there doing here.
SO virgin will need to lay the coax from the fiber in, not too messy, they can tack it along the walls as to dig stuff up

Virgin Media can supply there broadband services to customers either way.
If there website checker says you can get Virgin Media CABLE then you are in a Virgin Cabled area, you are probably also in a Virgin Media LLU service enabled exchange area as well. Virgin started there LLU program to offer there broadband service so they wern't missing on customers that could not get there Cabled service.
So by the looks of it you have a choice of both, if so you will have a little triangular cover just outside your property at the front(thats whats around the local area) this is were they will pull the coaxial feed in from the distribution Cab near to were you live then run this to the house.

and i think there is a green box in the hedge which i,ve seen Virgin engineers use from time to time ,so maybe thats it ?

Yea same here, the Virgin Media cabs a fairly large but it depends on how many houses its designed to supply. But the ones in the next village (my village was never included in the VM cable roll out in the 90's
) are about 4ft wide 3ft tall and green. Also there are manhole covers that say CATV on them for the Cable TV trunks that carry the fibre and Coax for the service.

My Virgin cabs are ground bassed and marked CATV, there man hole covers.
BT have the same along side here.
