Ive just purchased some Gale flat speaker cable from Richersounds which ive got to connect to my original speaker cable (extending the cable).

Does anyone know how to identify the positive on the cable?, ive noticed that the cable has writing on one side/edge, do you think this will be the positive?.

Some cable have a +ve symbol printed on, some have one square and one round cable joined together to help distinguish and some just print writing on one cable only.

Truth is it doesn't matter at all as both of the cables are identical. Just make sure you connect them up at the ends correctly.

Doesn't matter, just make sure polarity is correct. But usually you use the wire with marker/line down the length for the positive connection.

As above.

However I would not join two lengths together, it is generally agreed that a single run is better. Also if you can afford it you should have idetical lenghts running to each speaker.

Yeah i did have a full length of cable until a slight mishap  , problem is i cant now put a new length of cable down due to plastering, carpeting etc etc so ive got to go for the join. I will be soldering it, and using shrink tape to cover it. Its only for the 2 rear surround speakers so it should be fine for this purpose.
