Currently I'm a team leader at a currys store, with about a year to go before I get to assistant manager. I'm good at my job (regional manager has said I'm his "talent pipeline"), but I don't particularly like it. I applied for an assistant manager job at a Disney store (was plowing through job sites spamming) and they got back to me today.

On the cards: 15k becomes 19+k and I'd have a higher position to put on my cv. It's something different and might be a fun challenge

Cons: I lose the benefit of my tech knowledge and have to deal with kids all day (my customers aren't exactly great fun either though) and I'd have to commute from bristol to bath, or potentially move, which negates some of the pay benefit.

So what would you guys do?

Do you want to follow the Currys career?

If not, and you're just looking for experience, go for the Disney Store.
Maybe find out if anyone you know has previous knowledge of working conditions?

All depends on your long term plan!

Two big companys that will always be in bussiness Currys or Disney

There's always going tobe jobs in retail managers so if it don't work out them can always look again?

Disney are an awesome company to work for, very nice to their staff. My sister worked for Disney Cruise lines in the states and loved it, not quite a store in England though

Cool, well after my phone interview this morning (which went well) i'll hopefully be getting a call back. If they offer what I asked for i'll go for it, bit not before squeezing currys for a decent raise lol.

Thanks for letting me bounce thoughts off of you :)

Definitely go for the Disney job. Do not trust people at regional manager level or above who make promises.

You're team leader at Currys and only on £15k? Assistant manager at Disney store is only £19k?

I'm quite surprised by that too, I thought both wages would be higher than that to be honest.

Really? I'm an AM and I'm on less than he is now. If I'm getting enough hours for a standard week, I'm averaging about ~14k PA, but I'm only on a 25 contract so in reality I often average 30-35 and just break minimum wage. I don't think they even offer shop managers in my company more than 17k these days whereas the old boys are all on ~>21k.

Ugh, I need out of that job. Hah! :p

I guess I've just been out of retail for too long and lost touch with the wages - I get more than that assistant manager wage for what is essentially call centre work. Maybe I'm just overpaid

I would not count on Currys lasting many more years. They are just showrooms for people to browse then buy online.

They don't even offer good service that is worth paying more for such as John Lewis.
