i've also managed it in the tie i want to wear

the double windsow just wont work with the couple of tie's i have , it could be my fat fingers and lack of tie tying experience though

basic tie:
put tie around neck cross the two parts in front to make a v.
wrap the fat end around the v once.
take fat end up through the v and put under the the bit you wrapped around and pull tight.

half/single :
put tie around neck cross the two parts in front to make a v.
wrap fat end around one of the \ / of the v .
then proceed to like the basic
wrap the fat end around the v once.
take fat end up through the v and put under the the bit you wrapped around and pull tight.

full windsor/double windsor:
put tie around neck cross the two parts in front to make a v.
wrap fat end around one of the \ / of the v and the the other(you'll find it'll have a natural path so not hard to get right.
then proceed like the basic.
wrap the fat end around the v once.
take fat end up through the v and put under the the bit you wrapped around and pull tight.

Yeah, You have to keep it tight.

With some ties you can end up with a knot a few inches across.

Got mine just the way I want it for presentation evening on friday. Put the coin in the knot and a coin in the bottom. :)

Make sure its not a padded tie or you will just look like a chav with a double windsor.

Without a doubt though Double windsor.

Tend to go for a double-windsor on the (rare) occasions I do wear a tie.

Whatever you do though, avoid fat knots and especially avoid fat knots teamed with the top button undone, unless you want to look like a 16 year old office junior, estate agent or call-centre monkey

double windsor they only way to go, balanced. Dont go with a huge footballers tie and look like a ****

why do they do that ? it's always the stupid footballers who have these pathetic ties

Full (double) windsor is the gentleman's way to wear a tie. And therefore the correct way.

'The Footballer' comes from either tying the tie so it's too short (like they did at school withthe little 1" ties) or from using a padded tie, which makes a Half Windsor look bigger, to tie a full Windsor.

The knot should be symmetrical and fill the space between the collar. Too fat and you'll look like a mobile phone salesman, too skinny and you'll look like a criminal.
