I will be using this laptop for both work use, and for BF2 in emergencies instead of my main machine. I dont hugely want to spend over £700 but will if the difference in spec is worth it. What do ya reckon guys?

I disagree. The OP wants to play BF2 on the odd occasion and BF2 will run a tad bit slow on the X700 (unless you don't care about game quality :)). Acer Aspire 1652ZWLM with the X1300 will do a better job overall though it comes with the extra price too.

the x1300 has 128mb of dedicated i think, and then can be bumped up to 512 using system memory. I'm more curious as to whether the extra cost is too much for the performance difference if in fact there is any

Really!

X1300 - shares sytem ram; has 4 pixel pipelines
X700 - dedicated ram; 8 pixel pipelines

You do have a point, I thought X1300 had 8 pixel pipelines :p
X700 also has 4 more vertex shader pipelines... I guess it will hold the edge.

X1300 comes with 128Mb dedicated with another 384Mb available from shared RAM. X700 comes with 128Mb dedicated which is fixed. The X1300 will edge over the X700 if you up the game quality (or depending on how demanding the game is for texture/geometry data).
