Hey guys, my Dad is after a new laptop and the requirements are pretty vague and open. Basically something with a 15+ inch screen, can run games such as WoW and CSS on max or very high, and thats about it. Obviously needs to run quick and be reliable aswell. Budget is around £500-£750, depending on what we can get.

Is this just a case of buying whatever looks ok or are there brands to go for/avoid? HP/Acer/Sony/Fujitsu etc?

Cheers

I have a Dell E6500 here now and its a great laptop (got it today, so its sill got the love factor). Core 2 P9500 2.53Ghz, 4Gb Ram, 15.4" 1440x900 screen, backlit keyboard, webcam, fingerprint reader and it looks good too (not that heavy comparably either) and that should come in at the topish end of your budget if you look about for a Dell Outlet one (of which there are a few floating about).

I personally would avoid Acer like the plague, and the same would go for Fujitsu unless you are spending big big money. Sony laptops are vastly overrated IME. The HPs are good machines though!

I've had a couple of Acer's, and have never experienced any issues. My current Aspire 6930G with 9600mGT only cost £440, and plays evergame I've thrown at it pretty well :)
