Hi All.

I am thinking of purchasing a laptop for around £800. My wife has an E-series Sony Vaio and I was thinking along the same lines. The machine I am looking at is as follows:-

E Series Vaio in Glossy White.

CPU - I5 480M
GPU - ATI HD 5650 1gb
Ram - 6gb ddr3
Screen - 15.5 inch 1920 x 1080 full hd
Blu ray writer
HDD - 320gb 7200 rpm
HDMI Output for connecting to the TV.

This retails for £799 through Sony although I'm sure I can also get £50 cashback so it comes down to £750. My budget could stretch a little further if the spec was worth it.

I am in 2 minds whether to wait for the newer Sandybridge cores to go into the E series Vaio although I've no idea when this will be, and as with all things computery you could be hanging on forever while you make a decision. The laptop will be used for watching movies and some gaming. I don't expect fantastic gaming performance (I have my desktop for that) but do want it to be adequate for things like BC2. The important thing for me is having the full HD screen, and a keyboard layout similar to the E series Vaio which is very nice to type on. I've looked at Dell and they want £170 extra for a full HD screen!! The only disappointing thing is that it only has USB 2 not 3.

Any thoughts or suggestions would be most welcome.

Cheers.

Id defo wait for a SB if your going to spend that much on a laptop.
Thought £800 would get you top end.
You say watching movies, but do you need a Blu Ray drive? if you have a PS3 could save on that and get a better componment elsewhere.
