Which laptop?

My dad is after a laptop and I've no idea where to start looking to help him. He currently has an iMac but wants to switch to a laptop for the portability.

He'll be using it for general usage, like internet, music, watching films etc. The most demanding thing he does is play the Ciivilization games and the like. Turn based strategy ones. Wont be going anywhere near an FPS etc. He'd like as big a screen as possible.

Budget is around £500.

I appreciate I'm probably after something not available at OC (since the ones I've seen here are serious gaming ones) and linking is a no no so if you just use model names and I can search them out myself.

Thanks.

Matey found a few around your price range. I had a look on the Dell outlet, nothing stands out that is within budget.

I got an [email protected] (turbo to 2.6) 4gb ram 720m gfx for 500euro/400quid - wont be able to max civ5 but would comfortably play it at med at 720p. Any laptop in this range will have fairly poor res. Mine is 1366 x 768.

Found one I think would be suitable:

Intel® Core™ i5-4200U Processor (3M Cache, up to 2.6 GHz)
AMD Radeon™ HD 8870M 2GB GDDR5
8GB 2 DIMM (2x4GB) DDR3L 1600Mhz
1TB 5400RPM SATA Hard Drive

£549.00

That seem reasonable? Looked up the GFX on notebookcheck and it seems to be good for what he needs it for.

Kill the link...
I was looking at the A10 as well, that seems to do everything he would be looking for and be pretty snappy, especially if he is coming from an old core 2 iMac.

that's usually because the good deals are gone within minutes, the great deals more like within seconds after the site gets refreshed at around 3PM on weekdays.

so browsing there Sunday night is more than useless.
