Which laptop?

I'm having to lose my desk and PC setup, so I need something to replaced it.

I want something mobile that I can use on my couch or at the kitchen table. I also need Windows for the odd dabble at Photoshop and smartphone firmware flashing etc. I do very little gaming anymore, so not worth taking that into consideration. My main use is forum browsing and YouTube viewing to be honest.

In my mind a 'normal' laptop wouldn't be comfortable on the couch, so I was looking at the flip round 2 in 1 types. I had a look at the HP Envy x360 and it looks good, but worried about the keyboard getting full of dust and crap when in tablet mode and the track pad has had bad reviews.

I then noticed the Surface Pro. It's slimmer, smaller, lighter, more mobile, more powerful (on paper anyway), but the cost is a lot higher. It's more of a tablet with a keyboard - Over £150 add-on keyboard as well!

Could I get your thoughts? Should I just go for the x360? Or is there something which offers better value?

I'm a long-term user of the Surface Pro 4 and it suits my needs really well. I mainly use it for work and travel (emails, MS Office, web browser), so my use case is obviously different from yours.

Some things I personally feel don't work well on the Surface Pro:
- using the device on your lap or aeroplane tray table is not great because of the kickstand.
- touchscreen is not very useful to me, so I solely use the Surface Type Cover keyboard for input.
- only 1 x USB 3.0 (even the same still on Surface Pro 6).

Despite the above negatives, I still use my Surface Pro 4 daily and have no urge to upgrade to anything else at this moment in time.

Thanks for the input.

I'm now wondering if I should choose a normal laptop for the family to use (my daughter enjoys playing Roblox), than get myself a tablet.
