Which laptops use the 8800mGTX?

Im looking to get a laptop and I want it to be able to play games ok. From what I can gather the 8800m is the best gpu you can get for a laptop but im wondering which laptops actually use them. Im aware that the Dell XPS M1730 uses 2 in sli, but thats a bit over kill for me plus I would still want some portability (ie not plugged into the mains all the time) and not weighing a ton.

Its a shame there is not an option for the XPS M1530 to upgrade the gpu from 8600M to 8800M. Perhaps Dell will update their XPS range to this soon as this would swing it for me as I really like the 1530. When is the next refresh coming?

Are there any other laptops that use a single 8800m?

From memory there is an alienware with a single 8800mgtx and a 15.4" screen which is about as portable as your going to get i think you asking a little to much to have an 8800 and have it run off the battery and it not weighing a ton, there was also a Rock but they have gone into admin. Dell wont ever put an 8800 in the 1530 as its designed a small thin notebook with a mainstream graphics chip, if they did it would take sales away from there M1730 and it would probably be the hottest thing in the world as its only around 1" thick including the LCD

Echo the above with regards to the Alienware. They do lovely gaming laptops although the prices start at £900 and can reach high prices.

As for Rock, they did go into Administration but have since been bought out by Stone and are happily trading again.

In a recent Custom PC feature the rock laptops came out top for gaming from the Alienware range.

The only problem with the X80r was the price when i got my M1730 for the same price as the x80r my M1730 had a 400GB RAID 0 Array against the x80r's 200GB Drive, 2x 8800m's against one and i also got a 3 year next day onsite warranty against the x80r's one year return to base. It was a no brainer for me but then i wasnt bothered about portability. So i think that the x80r is the OP's only real option right now. One of the new gateways with the 8800GTS would be ideal but unfortunately not avaible in this country only the USA.

How much was your m1730?

Mine cost £2596 same specs as yours but with x2 160GB HDD and a x7900.

I think for an extra £30 or something you can extend the warranty to 2 years.

I was in the states last week and there was a best buy over the road from my hotel. I dropped in to take a look at the Gateway. It's a very nice machine and a great price for the spec (mobile 8800GTS, 17" screen for $1349) I would have snapped it up if I hadn't previously opted for the M1730

negotiated them down to £1599 with 4GB but only a T9300 cpu (which was what the x80r had for a similar price) but i got the rucksack too
