Hi All
I have been looking around at laptops recently and Lenovo seem to have taken my eye (they seem to be very reliable - had some bad experiences with Dell recently) but there are sooooo many to choose from and i am having real difficulties choosing which one to get.

I would like one with the rapid boot as this looks pretty cool but not too sure if they all have this. i3 minimum or i5 if possible. Want one with a 7200 speed hd (at least 500gb), 4gb ram minimum and a decent battery life (over 5 hours), reasonably light (not as heavy as Dell 1525). Graphics card maybe (not sure on this one yet) , a finger print reader would be a bonus but where they do not have these they have the face recognition thing which is cool but unsure whether its any good.

What i want to use it for is recording music using Reaper or another multitrack recorder (processing will be done outside)

Anyone want to chip in with some recomendations as i have no idea which one to get here (budget up to £600)

You can buy direct from lenovo as it is usually cheaper in case you didn't already know this @ lenovo.co.uk. There are usually some 10-15% off codes + cashback as well posted on topcashback/quidco or even Lenovo. Nothing at the mo but there were last week. Much like dell these deals seem to rotate.

I would look at the ThinkPad Edge 320 (13") or 520 (15"). Spec up from the cheapest base system http://shop.lenovo.com/SEUILibrary/...4D5BEBFD451C8204CB2C74E0D4F8&menu-id=products

Both will be great but the 320 would be my fav as I prefer the 13" size. You can also spec the ati 6630 graphics on the 320 which is pretty good and a Nvidia 525 equivalent.

Make sure you spec the UK keyboard if you have the option though as some of the laptops have the US as default.

ThinkPad Edge Edge E320 - 1 Year Depot Warranty
Intel Core i3-2310M Processor (2.10GHz, 3MB L3)
Genuine Windows 7 Home Premium 64
13.3" W HD (1366 x 768)LED, VibrantView, Low-light sensitive HD Webcam, Midnight Black (w/o WWAN)
AMD Mobility Radeon HD6630 1GB Switchable Graphics
4 GB DDR3 - 1333MHz (1 DIMM)
Keyboard UK English
320 GB Hard Disk Drive, 7200rpm
Bluetooth 3.0
8 Hour Battery Life
1.7KG
Fingerprint Reader

£531 at the moment, last week this was £440 though.

One strange question on this one, i have noticed that it does not have an optical drive. How can you get things on and off this one?

I am using a Samsung 600B4B right now which just trumps my last Thinkpad in terms of build and screen quality. From my experience with the Thinkpad line it seems that they are watering down the whole 'legendary thinkpad quality' more and more with every iteration. The edge series seem to get the lowest scores from reviewers when it comes to build quality with even the T series being affected. But don't take my work for it, look it up yourself.

Found a bit of wierdness on the Lenovos.

The E320 now does not have a fingerprint reader option and the E520 does not have a graphics card option lol
