Hi,

Not used linux for quite some time what with Uni and stuff (Never really seem to have much time) but in the mood for getting back with it again. I've decided that I'd rather get a distro that runs nicely from a pen disk - Seems to have the advantages of a live CD (The fact that I can pretty much run the same computer on any computer I boot the pen disk from, and the fact that it means I can leave my main HDD install totally alone) whilst having the advantage of letting me save changes, and files.

After making the decision to go USB pen drive I researched the options - And boy are there some options... Ubuntu, DSL, Knoppix, Slax... To name but a few.

My question to you - Which is the bext linux distro for a pen drive? Capacity isn't a huge concern as I will buy a pen disk depending on the distro I choose (Not got a size limit from that perspective).

I'd say some important factors are:

Good hardware detection - Will use on a variety of computers.
Good selection of software - Will be using software ranging from internet tools (Browser, mail client, msn, etc) to media (audio, video) to documents (a whole office suite).
Stable.

Any other questions just ask - I am sure there are some important questions that will dictate the best distro for me but I'm not quite sure what they'd be...

So... Which? Look forward to hearing from you...

Many Thanks!

Dan.

Gentoo might be a good choice as you can compile the kernel with all the features you might need. Its quite likely down to your choice im pretty sure most linux distros will be capable of doing what u want with some tweaking.

Should tell you everything you need to know and how to do it.

My vote goes with Ubuntu as it comes packed with software and has excellent support via the Ubuntu forums. I use Ubuntu almost exclusively on my main rig. So I am not biased in any way :p ;)
