After having a tinker around with fans and normal cpu cooler setup i just fancy a change and giving a liquid cooler a go, the inside of the case will look a lot neater as well.

What would you recommend, suggest your own if you don't think the ones below are upto a lot, obviously the quieter the better.

The only thing that puts me off the Corsair H80 is ive read a lot of bad reports about them with noisy pumps and people having to RMA them back to Corsair at their own cost.

Id rather stick to an air cooler, not much to go wrong with a big lump of metal. Theese sealed units seem to be a bit problematic.

Stick with air. It seems that these sealed units are more trouble than they are worth with their dodgy pumps and leaking all over your hardware.

I think there are more cases of it being successful than them leaking/exploding... I've had my H70 for over 1 and a half years and have no complaints, just one push fan and looks the part, and less than 40 degree idle temps, and less than 70 degree load temps with no change in sound as the fan is at 1500 RPM and doesn't change!

The thing is the air cooler he has operates at even lower RPM and performs better with the 140mm fans he already has which would make going to one of those sealed units a sideward step at most. That's not worth £80.

I'd stick with air if i were you unless you want to do your own loop properly.

There have been far too many reported pump issues on these closed loop water coolers IMO.

Cheers for the replies

What people have said is right, even though the liquid coolers with their blocks look neater and tidier and create more space i don't need to change as currently my temps seem to be good from what ive read.

This was running prime95 for 1 hour, i5 3570k, cooler master 612s, gelid extreme thermo paste, Thermalright TY 140 - 140mm fans. The room temp was approx 15 degrees.

Do all the voltages and other results seem fine ?

Ive ordered the phanteks one, they all seemed to be great coolers from the reviews but the colours on the other ones put me off especially with having a side window where i'd have to look at brown and beige :o

Phanteks are very good. You won't regret it. Have one myself. I put my TY-140 fans on it as they are true PWM, slightly quieter and slightly better cooling. ;)

I have been in contact with Phanteks support on several occasions - (non because of product problems) - for things like needing the PWM adaptor, some extra fan clip pins, some extra fan pads - and they have been stellar!!

I just had my cooler off changing CPU from i7-920 to i7 980 and testing a dead i7 990x. Noticed a fin slightly out of whack so sent Phanteks a pic asking about it. That was yesterday and 10am today I get a reply. They are sending me another cooler and will take mine back to check it out.. when would be good to schedule delivery. Who else is this good?

Was thinking if I was doing it again I would go Thermalright Silver Arrow SB-E Extreme. Cheaper, cooler and red/orange fans that are just as quiet as TY-140 up to 1300rpm... but hold onto your hat if you crank them up to their 2500rpm limit!! But no.. Phanteks is just as good cooling and their customer support track record makes all the difference.
