Please try and avoid the "none of them" comments :)

The contenders are:

Range Rover Sport

M class Merc

X5 BMW

Or another Cayenne but this time a face lift 2007 on version. (iv got a 2006 one now)

All the cars will be 18-24 months old and the petrol derivatives.

I would suggest whichever you like the best after having test driven them all. There's nothing objectively to make one stand out I feel. ML has the least off road ability, but in AMG form will be the quickest in a straight line. The BMW will drive the most like a car and the RR will be a compromise between the two with the best off road ability. If depriciation is a concern then RR is the best bet and I'd stay away from the ML. I'd suspect the BMW would have the least hideous running costs if you're looking at big engined petrol variants of them all.

I need a bit of ground clearance because of where i live, i like a high driving position, i tow the odd horse box :)

My partner and i have just drawn our anual bonus from the business, this is my chosen method of spending it.

Iv pretty much already made up my mind but was a bit bored and thought i'd see what the general opinion was.

That is the way i am leaning, or wait 6 months and get an X6.

if you want to go off road / pull a horse box, all will be capable but I would consider avoiding the X5 and Merc.

Cayenne is epic both on and off road and the RRS is a very credible unit too.

It would be out of these two if Land Rovers were not an option.

My experience of this Cayenne has been less than epic sadly or i would get another.

Not sure on the looks of an X6, they certainly have a road presence, just cant get my head around the looks.

I've got to say the X6 is a genuinely good looking car in my book. See a couple around and think they don't look at all awkward like the original X5 (the new one being a bit better, still not great though)
