Ok, so I have the max of £700 to spend on a macbook.

This will get me a brand new 2.1ghz machine with a combo drive...

OR

Refurbished MacBook 2,2GHz Intel Core 2 Duo - White
13.3 inch (diagonal), (1280 x 800 resolution), Glossy TFT Widescreen 1GB (two 512MB) 667Mhz DDR2 SDRAM 120GB 5400-rpm Serial ATA hard drive 8x SuperDrive (DVD±R DL/DVD±RW/CD-RW) Intel GMA X3100 graphics processor with 144MB of DDR2 SDRAM shared with main memory Built-in Airport Extreme Wi-Fi (802.11n) Built-in Bluetooth 2.0+EDR

For £639... however its a refurb...

Any help anyone??

Get a refurb. They look brand new, and just come in a brown box instead of the Apple one.

It would be silly not to get one.

For £713 you could get the latest mid-range MacBook.

Obviously, you'd have to use Higher Education discount, but it's not half bad if you could get someone you know (who's a student) to buy it for you.

FYI: The base model (the one you mentioned) is £601 with HE discount, to put it in perspective.

To answer the next few questions;

No they don't ask for proof.
If they do you can just hang up and retry.
You get 3 years warranty as standard, so don't pay the £58.
PayPal me money at this address

;)

I think nearly everyone on this forum has blagged it at some point or another.

I'm probably the worst for this, but I'm trying to stop now.. honest!

Yes, all HE purchases come with the 3 year parts and labour warranty.

The money only extends the phone support to 3 years (from 1)

Ahh :) I shouldnt have bothered then really, oh well it's handy to have.

It does bump resale somewhat, and it is good for a first-time user (who wants to call Apple).

If you'd have paid the full whack (£279 iirc) then you'd be gutted, but the HE deal is pretty good considering.

Yea it was the way the guy put it across on the phone, mis sold i feel. Not a first time apple user by any stretch but first time i'd looked into extended what nots :) It'll be kept through the whole period so gives me a bit of extra peace of mind :)

Ok, I'm heading out to buy one now...

Should I get the 2.1ghz or the 2.4ghz?

It wont be used for fancy apps etc. I take it I can just link a external DVD burner to it if necessary?

Thanks, any help much appreciated!
