Hi, just upgrading my rig and have decided on a ATI X1900 XT-X but not entirely sure which brand is best? there seems to be a little bit of price difference between them... So which do you folks recomend?

Asus
Connect 3d
HIS Excalibur
PowerColour
Sapphire

Got my finger on the order button just need this sorting! :D

Andy.

Get whichever is the cheapest, they're all made at the same place afaik so there is no 'better' brand unless you like box art.

Sapphire, cheapest and solid product with a 2 year warranty. My Sapphire XT Max's out the Cats overclocking range @ 690/800 which is the highest it will go.

Asus one should be good, as OcUK are handling the RMA's instead, as Asus support on graphics cards is poor to say the least, thats why they are more expensive, but you'll get a cracking service from these guys if anything goes wrong, but as said any will do, as they are all quality brands, only differences are the pic on the cooler, and what software you get. :)

What cats version are you using ?

Why is anyone buying XTX when the XT are using the same mem 1.1ns and is cheaper ?

Just flash the Bios using ATI flash.

You must be mad to buy the more expensive card, its just burning money.

XT may work fine overclocked in current games but once the 48 shader pipelines are put to use you may not be quite so smug. ;)

I think your confused!

X1900 XT and X1900 XT-X are identical in everyway except for the clock speeds they run at. As current batches of XT are using the same 1.1ns memory as the XT-X cards the XT's are absolute bargains.

Think it over you can buy an X1900 XT from here for £309+VAT which outperforms the 7800 GTX 512MB which cost £500 +VAT. For most people the choice of what to buy is easy. ;)

Are you telling me the XT doesnt have 48 pixel shaders ?

no im telling you that while an XT overclocked to XTX clockspeeds may appear stable now (in current games), that doesn't mean that it will be stable once games are released which use the cards full shading power.

Thanks for putting a smile on my face that was funny. :)

What the hell ?

So hang on, when the new games come out that use the full 48 shaders my card is going to be unstable because its clocked higher ?

What does clocking have to do with the stability of the shaders ?

The XT flashed with the XTX bios is the XTX, stability on shaders has nothing to do with it. It becomes the XTX simple as.

And at no point was i being smug, i was saying, as Gibbo has said, that people who are getting the XTX over the XT are missing out on a bargain and spending needless money.
