Hey guys,

Which X1900XT 512MB card has the best noise level?

I have decided to buy either the X1900XT or the X1950 pro

The powercolor X1950 pro has very good cooling and some say it's silent.

But from reviews i hear that the powercolor 512MB X1900XT makes a lot of noise, so that's off my list if that's really true. The Sapphire is said to better in terms of the package and warranty, but i don't hear much on the cooling and also the standard ati radeon 512MB X1900XT again makes a lot of sound. Then you have the options of external cooling, but i don't want to go there.

Then from people on this forum saying that the 256MB X1900XT out does the X1950 pro which is a 512MB card by 10-20 frames per second.

So that gets me excited

But the power color X1950 pro is a single slot card where as i hear the X1900XT takes up a dual pci-e slots.

Then from reviews it says you can over clock a X1900XT to an XT-X which makes me even more excited, which makes the X1950 pro look like a total waste of money.

I know the 256MB version is about £30 cheaper but it seems that can't be overclocked into an XT-X but the X1900XT can so i am all for that.

The only last problem is that from the reviews it says that the X1900XT 512MB can't really play games smoothly avbove 1600x1200 but i read that the X1950 pro can play up to resolutions of 2560x1600 giving a decent frame rate above 40 fps. Now that is impressive, so it has that resolution edge over the X1900XT 512MB card.

So what is your final verdict,

Firstly have what i said all correct, anything i missed out?

Is there an X1900XT 512MB with good cooling, best noise level and that takes up 1 slot?

The X1950 is slower than the X1900XT

Just get a X1900 XT,Clock it to a XTX and fit a VF 900
 
One thing i did read just now is that the X1900XT came out in April 2005 which means that if i was to get this X1900XT then that is really old technology. But if i was to get the X1950 pro and forget about it being 10-20 frames per second slower than the X1900XT then at least i would be getting the latest technology. But tell me once the 512MB X1950 pro is over clocked then it should be faster than a X1900XT 512MB right?

oh and that HIS i can't afford to spend that much, do you know any other makes with quiet noise?

the X1950 pro is based on the X1900XT. the technology is pretty much the same. only differences i know of is clock speed and the GPU is done on a smaller fab process, which leads to lower temps
 
X1900 is hardly old technology, the only difference between the X1900XT and X1950Pro aside from number of shaders and clock frequencies is that the X1950Pro is built on an 80nm manufacturing process.

qietest X19XX cards are made by HIS, usually about £15 more than rivals but the cooler on it is well worth the Extra £££ as they tend to run around 11oC cooler :)

I agree. My HIS X1900XT is running faster than a XT-X and the fan is not going over 65% and i cant hear it :)

Yep! I have one here and its great :D

VF900s can't cope with the heat of X1900s, esp when overclocking. and the X2 thing is **** anyway because is recycles heat.

The IceQ coolers are the best. Period, followed closely by the X1950XTX coolers.

If you can't afford a X1900XT IceQ, get a X1950Pro or stick with the normal X1900 coolers.

Since when? My X1900XT 512MB @ XT-X (not bothered to actually overclock it yet) never tops 75ºC under full load with my VF900, it's actually running cooler than my X1800XT 256MB did with the same cooler. ;)

Edit: I forgot to mention that's with the fanmate on minimum setting. :cool: Temps drop drastically if I turn right up, but it's the only fan in my PC at the moment (except the PSU fan) so I prefer to leave it down.

The HIS IceQ 3 is a bloody fantastic cooler with the advantage of exhausting heat from the case, but saying VF900s "can't cope" or that Accelero X2s are "****" is just being mean. :p I definitely agree that the IceQ 3 is the best though, cools like crazy while exausting heat and doesn't void your warranty to boot.

Seconded for sure, because if the HIS X1950Pro Turbo really does do X1900XT performance then it's going to turn into the darling of the £150-£250 pricerange.

According to FiringSquad the standard model without the IceQ 3 does ~65ºC under full load thanks to the 80nm manufacturing process, and as the HIS Turbo model has an IceQ 3 I can only imagine it cutting a good 5-10ºC off that, maybe even more.

Over at XS thats been the general consensus, for stock its fine but start overclocking and it goes **** up. The X2 is rubbish because it directs heat at the mobo and then sucks it in again.

So Ill stand by my comments ;)

Well like I said I've not bothered going beyond XT-X clocks as of yet, so if you're interested I will report back and let you know if it bottles out. I hope it doesn't. :(

I have a feeling it won't though because it's keeping my X1900 cooler than it kept my X1800. Think it could be user error there though, too much thermal paste or not even enough or something.
 
it's all subjective, I had a 'Silent' HIS 1900XT and imo it still made a racket compared to the 7900GTO.

Dunno if they've improved matters with the X1950 line, I certainly hope so.

SPOT ON !!

I would not particularly worry about the coolers they are all Noisey !!

I would Take most reviews with a pinch of salt !

If It was me I would look for a bargain price X1900xt any manufacturer

Unlike most people who go on about all these Coolers I have hade them all, and the only time any of them are silent is when they are turned off... :p
