I'm currently running 2GB of PC6400 but having switched to Vista x64 a while ago it's apparent it craves more, I assume 4GB should be enough - or am I better off trying to estimate what I need based on my page file usage etc?

My motherboard supports PC8500 but from what I've read due to my CPU I won't be able to achieve that, so I guess my question is because they're very similarly priced am I better going for PC6400 which is more suited to my overclock, or PC8500 because it gives me the headroom in the future if I want to upgrade the CPU, or is it likely a new socket will have taken over by then anyway?

I was looking at memory such as these:

I last touched the overclocking on this machine when I built it, about 1.5 years ago and have since forgotten everything about it, so please go easy on me :o.

With that processor I would stick with 4GB DDR800. Vista runs much happier on 4GB as opposed to 2GB, as you mentioned. However, 4GB of DDR800 will cost you £30-35 - not very much. Then in a year or two when you do a new build, go for faster memory. Dont buy faster (and more expensive) memory just now that you wont get the use of, whereas in a year or two when you upgrade/new build, you'll get faster memory for roughly the same (i would expect) as 4GB DDR800 currently is.

Cheers, sounds like a plan then :).

There's only a few £ in it at the moment between the two speeds so it's not going to break the bank, I assume running faster rated memory at the slower speed would be just as good as running the slower rated memory at the same speed?
